Need to nurture Buddhist heritage in state: VC : The Tribune

Kurukshetra, September 15 A heritage awareness programme focusing on the “Buddhist Tourism” in Haryana was organised here today by the Department of Tourism and Hotel Management, Kurukshetra, in collaboration with the Buddhist Forum, Yamunanagar, and Dainik Jagran, to apprise young students of the university of rich cultural heritage of Haryana.
A documentary film “Dhammakshetra”, prepared by the Buddhist Forum to show how the Buddhist heritage was associated with the epic town where Mahabharata was fought, was also screened on the occasion.

Kurukshetra University Vice-Chancellor Lt-Gen DDS Sandhu, who was the chief guest, lauded the efforts of the organisers to bring the Buddhist heritage in Haryana to limelight.The people were unaware of Buddhist heritage in Haryana but the need of the time was to nurture this heritage and link it with tourism in a sustainable manner, he said, assuring his support to any such endeavour which promoted conservation and promotion of stupas in the state.
Vijay Vardhan, Financial Commissioner and Principal Secretary, highlighted the rich cultural traditions of Haryana and called for more specialised work on heritage like Buddhist heritage in Haryana. He also shared the concern and keenness of the government on conserving the Buddhist heritage.
